Secretary of Navy vows to strengthen alliance with Japan, other nations in Indo-Pacific

NHK reported online on Monday evening that concerning the recent passage by a flotilla of ten Chinese and Russian navy vessels through the Tsugaru and Osumi Straits, visiting Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro expressed a strong sense of urgency during a conference call on Monday, saying that China and Russia are threatening the nations in the region by actions that are not based on the rule of law. The Secretary also reportedly said the U.S. will deter such actions and remind China and Russia that an international order based on the rule of law is the key to regional economic stability. He also reportedly stressed that the U.S. will strengthen its alliance relationships with Japan and other nations in the Indo-Pacific and enhance deterrence through Freedom of Navigation Operations. The Secretary also reportedly said the Biden administration is reviewing the global posture of U.S. forces and will announce the new posture by early next year.
