On Oct. 29, the South Kanto Defense Bureau announced that live ammunition used by the U.S. military during machine-gun firing exercises held on Oct. 28 at the Ground Self-Defense Forces’ Higashi Fuji Training Area might have landed outside the training area. The U.S. Marines informed the bureau of this on Oct. 28. No injuries have been reported.

According to the defense bureau, the ammunition likely landed in the mountainous area in the Suyama district of Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The bureau requested the U.S. military to take strict measures to prevent recurrence and is collecting detailed information, including the unit involved.
