On Oct. 30, the Naha Police Station arrested on the spot three U.S. servicemembers [in three separate incidents] on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a passenger vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
A 28-year-old U.S. Air Force senior airman from Kadena Air Base was arrested in the Makishi district of Naha City at around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 31; a 22-year-old Marine corporal from Camp Hansen was arrested in the Kumoji district, Naha City, at around 10:00 a.m. on Oct. 31; and another 22-year-old U.S. Marine corporal was arrested in the Asato district, Naha City, at around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 31. All three were taken into custody on suspicion of driving a car while intoxicated with a level of alcohol exceeding the legal limit, which is 0.15mg per liter of breath.
According to the police station, the senior airman has admitted to the charges, while the two Marine corporals have been partially denying the charges, saying that they thought the alcohol had left their system. (Personal names have been redacted.)
