Ryukyu Shimpo led with a report saying that the LDP candidates who ran in the four single-seat constituencies in Okinawa in Sunday’s Lower House election garnered a total of 294,455 votes, 5,744 more than the All Okinawa anti-Futenma relocation group did. This was the first time for All Okinawa to collect fewer votes than the LDP in a national or gubernatorial election since the group was formed to support the late Okinawa Governor Onaga Takeshi’s bid for the governorship in 2014. The paper wrote that the group will likely enter a critical phase next year when such important elections as an Upper House election as well as a gubernatorial race and mayoral races in Nago and Naha will take place.
