NHK reported that according to the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry, the voting rate of people aged 18 and 19 in the Oct. 31 Lower House election was 43.01%, up 2.52 points from the last general election held in 2017 when Japan’s voting age was lowered to 18. The network said voter turnout was 51.14% for 18-year-olds and 35.04% for 19-year-olds. The overall voter turnout for the general election was 55.93%.
