TOKYO — Regarding the Lower House election victory of a Liberal Democratic Party candidate in Okinawa District No. 3, which includes Henoko (Nago City), Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said that while he would refrain from making comments about the election result, he believes that “steadily moving forward with the construction [of the new base] will lead to an early and complete return of Air Station Futenma and lead to the elimination of danger.” He made the remark at a press conference held on Nov. 3.

Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo also said at the press conference: “[The election result reflects] the will of Okinawans in the district. If further explanations are needed regarding the base relocation, we will provide them and move the project forward.”
