All national dailies wrote that Motegi Toshimitsu became secretary general of the ruling LDP after his appointment was endorsed by the General Council on Thursday. At a news conference following his appointment, Motegi cited economic recovery following the pandemic, party reform, and preparations for a House of Councillors election next year as his priority agenda items as party secretary general. Since Motegi has now vacated the post of foreign minister, Prime Minister Kishida will perform the functions of that role until he relaunches his cabinet and picks a new foreign minister on Nov. 10.
