Tokyo, Nov. 5 (Jiji Press)–An increasing number of lawmakers of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party are voicing support for providing 100,000 yen to each child under 19 as pledged by Komeito, the LDP’s coalition partner.
Such a cash handout program will be the centerpiece of the economic stimulus package to be compiled by the administration of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the LDP’s president.
Komeito is strongly demanding that the administration implement the cash handout plan, featured in the party’s manifesto for Sunday’s general election.
The LDP and Komeito are set to start their discussions on details of stimulus measures between their secretaries-general Monday. The government aims to adopt the economic package Nov. 19.
Komeito seeks to realize the handout program as it believes that child-rearing households have been hit hard by the prolonged novel coronavirus crisis.
