Former NSS chief Kitamura likely to join blue-ribbon panel on economic security

Fuji TV reported on the finding from multiple government sources that the GOJ has informally decided to tap former National Security Secretariat (NSS) Secretary-General Kitamura Shigeru as one of the members of a blue-ribbon panel charged with considering legislation aimed at promoting economic security. The network said the first ministerial meeting on economic security will be held on Nov. 19, where Prime Minister Kishida is expected to order the establishment of the blue-ribbon panel. The panel will reportedly examine a bill focusing on strengthening the domestic production of semiconductors and assisting research and development of state-of-the-art technology.
