Asahi, Mainichi, and Sankei reported on Thursday that a water bottle fell from an MV-22 Osprey stationed at MCAS Futenma as it flew over a residential area in Ginowan, Okinawa, on Tuesday evening. No injuries were reported. According to the Ginowan police, a stainless-steel water bottle was found in front of the entrance of a private home.
In a follow-up report, Asahi wrote today that the U.S. military did not notify the Japanese side about the mishap until the Okinawa Defense Bureau filed an inquiry. Noting that the Okinawa prefectural government has called for the U.S. military to report any incidents or accidents involving service members without delay, the paper said it plans to file a protest over the latest mishap.
