Komeito to establish intraparty organization to discuss economic security

Komeito will set up an economic security group within the party as soon as yearend. The party will begin internal discussions related to the “economic security promotion bill,” which the government plans to submit to the ordinary Diet session in 2022. The group will analyze the bill’s impact on security and corporate activities and consider what measures will be necessary.

Arrangements are underway to have Acting Secretary-General Akaba Kazuyoshi head the group. Although the party pledged in the October House of Representatives election that it would “promote initiatives such as economic diplomacy and economic security,” its members had not yet held substantial discussions on the matter at that point.
