Tokyo, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fisheries products and foods in January-October increased 28.0 pct from a year before to 973.4 billion yen, the agriculture ministry said Friday.

For the whole of this year, such exports are now certain to exceed the government-set annual target of 1 trillion yen, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Genjiro Kaneko told a press conference the same day.

The surge comes on the back of a recovery in demand for dining out in the United States and China.

In the first 10 months of 2021, exports stood at 649.9 billion yen for agricultural products, 46.7 billion yen for forestry products and 240.1 billion yen for fisheries products.

Of the farm exports, processed foods, including alcoholic drinks, accounted for 374.9 billion yen, livestock products 90.8 billion yen, cereals 45.3 billion yen, and vegetables and fruits 41.6 billion yen.

The government aims to boost exports of agricultural, forestry and fisheries products and foods to 2 trillion yen in 2025 and to 5 trillion yen in 2030.
