Tokyo, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)–Japan will host a nutrition summit for two days from Tuesday, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said Friday.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will take part in the Tokyo Nutrition for Growth Summit 2021, which will be held both face-to-face and online, Hayashi told a press conference.
At a time when developing countries are suffering from hunger and low nutrition, while developed countries are facing overnutrition and obesity, “the summit will present directions for the international community to improve nutrition,” he said.
In relation to the summit, Kishida held telephone talks with Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates on Friday.
Gates informed Kishida of his intention to join the summit. Kishida and Gates agreed to work closely for the coming meeting.
