On Dec. 8, the Naha District Court opened the trial for a 22-year-old U.S. Marine Private First Class accused of driving a vehicle while drunk and without a license, thus violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license).

The ruling was issued on the same day, and Judge Ono Hironobu sentenced the Marine to one year in prison with three years’ probation (one year imprisonment had been sought by the prosecution).
