The Liberal Democratic Party’s Ishihara faction (Kinmirai Seiji Kenkyukai) held a political fundraising gathering in Tokyo on Dec. 16. Following the defeat of faction head Ishihara Nobuteru in the recent House of Representatives election, LDP General Council Executive Acting Chairperson Moriyama Hiroshi has become the new chairman of the faction. Because Moriyama is now chair, the name of the Ishihara faction has been changed to the “Moriyama faction.”
Ishihara was absent from the reception because he had just resigned as special advisor to the cabinet after it was revealed that the LDP’s Tokyo No. 8 district chapter, which he heads, received an employment adjustment subsidy last year. Former LDP Secretary-General Yamasaki Taku participated in the reception, but he has been stripped of his LDP membership status for one year because he supported the CDPJ’s Tsujimoto Kiyomi in the recent Lower House election. Yamasaki’s status as the faction’s chief adviser has also been suspended for one year.
