Okinawa service member reprimanded for breaching COVID-19 protocols

Ryukyu Shimpo reported on the disclosure by the Foreign Ministry at the Diet on Thursday that a Marine at Camp Foster was reprimanded for flying into Okinawa on a commercial flight on Oct. 31 after testing positive for the novel coronavirus upon his arrival at Narita Airport a day earlier. The service member violated the agreed-upon infection protocols by falsely telling the airport authorities he belonged to Yokota AB and taking a commercial flight to Okinawa without self-quarantining at the appropriate location in Tokyo. While saying that the Marine was punished for violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the ministry reportedly refused to release any other details of the case to the public by citing “relations with the United States.”
