On Dec. 20, the Yokosuka police arrested on the spot a 36-year-old petty officer 1st class stationed at the U.S. Navy Yokosuka base on suspicion of breaking into a building.

The allegation is that the suspect entered Suwa Elementary School in Ogawa Town, Yokosuka City, around 7:15 a.m. without a valid reason. A 33-year-old male teacher who came to work in the morning found the suspect, apprehended him on the spot, and handed him over to the police.

According to the police, the suspect was drunk and standing in a hallway on the second floor of the school building. The suspect told the police “I don’t remember at all what I did.”

On the same day, the Yokosuka City government verbally requested the Yokosuka base headquarters prevent a recurrence and enforce thorough discipline for its service members. (The suspect’s name has been redacted.)
