Gov’t to step up support for decarbonization efforts in Asia

By Nasu Shin-ichi

To support phased decarbonation efforts in Asia, the Japanese government will strengthen assistance for countries in drawing up a roadmap for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. The program will utilize the expertise held by Japan’s Institute of Energy Economics and receive cooperation from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), an international organization headquartered in Jakarta. Staff of the Japanese embassies in Asian nations will directly ask the government of their host nation what they need and support a phased “transition” toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions in light of the circumstances and needs of the host nation.
