On Dec. 31, the Ginowan Police arrested on the spot a 23-year-old Marine sergeant affiliated with the U.S. military’s Camp Schwab on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a car under the influence of alcohol (DUI). The suspect reportedly denied the charge by saying, “I took a nap, so I thought the alcohol was no longer in my system.”

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving a passenger car under the influence of alcohol at about three times the legal limit (0.15 mg/liter of exhalation) on National Route 58 in Ginowan’s Oyama district at around 7:44 a.m. on Dec. 31. The problem came to light when a patrolling police officer noticed a car weaving on National Route 58 and stopped the driver for questioning. (Personal name has been redacted.)
