All national dailies wrote that the Ministry of Health told prefectural governments nationwide that it has revised the current hospitalization requirement for those infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19. All Omicron-infected patients had been required to be hospitalized in the past, but they are now allowed to recuperate at home or in designated facilities when their local governments judge that the hospital occupancy rate is likely to rise to over 50% within the next three weeks. According to the papers, Osaka and Shiga have decided to adopt the new criteria and Okinawa and Ehime are considering doing so as well.
