U.S., Japan to hold virtual 2+2 meeting on Jan. 7

All national dailies wrote that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that the governments of the United States and Japan will hold a 2+2 meeting of foreign and defense ministers virtually on Friday morning (Japan time) with the participation of Secretary of State Blinken, Secretary of Defense Austin, Foreign Minister Hayashi, and Defense Minister Kishi. Yomiuri speculated that the participants will discuss measures to strengthen the deterrence of the United States and Japan in view of China’s military advancement. The papers wrote that the Department of State announced that Ambassador Emanuel will also attend the meeting.
