Monday’s Nikkei wrote that Japan’s entry restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus have been affecting exchange programs between Japanese and foreign universities. The paper wrote that the long-term impact of fewer international students coming to Japan could limit Japanese companies’ options for hiring global talent. The paper also wrote that as the number of foreign students going to the United States and the UK is rising and Australia eased its entry restrictions on Dec. 15, 2021, it may be necessary for Japan to consider applying entry restrictions to foreign students more flexibly.
