Japan’s daily coronavirus count tops 18,000

All national dailies wrote that Japan confirmed 18,860 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, exceeding 18,000 for the first time since Sept. 2, 2021. The daily tally increased by 560 from the previous day and rose four-fold from a week ago. The number of seriously ill patients was 125, up 20 from the previous day, and four people died. Tokyo confirmed 3,124 new cases, Osaka reported 2,452, and Okinawa confirmed 1,817.
