U.S. sanctions eight DPRK-linked individuals and entities over missile development

Mainichi and Yomiuri wrote that the U.S. government announced on Wednesday that it has imposed sanctions on six DPRK individuals, one Russian individual, and one Russian entity for engaging in North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs. Secretary of State Blinken reportedly said in a statement that the United States will use every appropriate tool to address the DPRK’s WMD and ballistic missile programs, which constitute a serious threat to international peace and security and undermine the global nonproliferation regime. The Treasury Department said the sanctions were in response to six North Korean ballistic missile launches since September 2021, noting that each violated multiple UN Security Council resolutions.

Mainichi wrote that although the Biden administration had taken no specific steps against the DPRK’s missile launches despite Pyongyang’s two missile tests this year, it has now demonstrated its position of firmly responding to the DPRK’s repeated missile launches.
