Pentagon says it takes spread of COVID-19 at USFJ facilities seriously

Asahi reported on Monday that in response to the spread of COVID-19 at USFJ facilities and their surrounding municipalities in Okinawa, Yamaguchi, and elsewhere, Department of Defense Press Secretary Kirby stressed on Friday that the U.S. side “took strict measures in Japan” with the new restrictions on non-essential outings by U.S. military personnel in mind. He reportedly said: “We obviously take very seriously not only our commitment to our own people and their health and readiness, but to the Japanese people certainly in surrounding communities to ours bases in Japan.” The paper wrote that Kirby also said that U.S. officials are in constant communication with their Japanese counterparts, and the U.S. will implement additional measures “in full transparency” with its Japanese ally. Mainichi carried a similar story.
