All national dailies wrote that North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said on Tuesday that the country has test-fired tactical guided missiles to “selectively evaluate tactical guided missiles being produced and deployed and to verify the accuracy of the weapon system.” The papers speculated that the announcement referred to the missile test conducted on Monday. Japan’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that Pyongyang apparently fired two short-range ballistic missiles using solid rather than liquid fuel, shortening the time required for prelaunch preparations. Defense Minister Kishi told reporters on Tuesday that it is clear that North Korea is trying to enhance its ability to launch a surprise attack and that this poses a serious and imminent threat to the security of Japan.
