ROK reiterates opposition to planned discharge of treated Fukushima water

Mainichi wrote from Seoul that during a press event on Thursday, the South Korean minister for marine and fisheries affairs voiced strong opposition to Japan’s plan to release into the ocean treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. “We’ve consistently insisted that such a discharge should not take place until thorough consultations with South Korea and other neighbors have been held. It is regrettable that Japan has failed to take such steps,” said the official, adding that the planned release is an extremely serious matter that has a direct bearing not only on the environment but also on the health and safety of the Korean people.
