LDP discusses Japan’s response to situation in Ukraine

Asahi and Sankei wrote that members of the LDP’s Foreign Affairs Division and Research Commission on Foreign Affairs met on Tuesday and discussed Japan’s response to the situation in Ukraine. According to Asahi, some meeting participants called on the GOJ to coordinate with other G7 nations on the possibility of imposing economic sanctions on Russia if it invades Ukraine. Mainichi wrote that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the LDP lawmakers that it has advised Japanese nationals in Ukraine to leave the country while commercial flights are still available. According to the paper, the ministry explained Japan’s plan to coordinate with the United States in responding to a possible military invasion of Ukraine.
