Ryukyu Shimpo reported that it learned from MOFA that although more than one month has passed since the U.S. military disclosed that it would conduct tests to check whether U.S. military community members in Japan who tested positive for COVID-19 were infected with the Omicron variant, the U.S. side had failed to present the test results to the GOJ as of Jan. 26. A MOFA official reportedly told the paper on Jan. 26: “There are no prospects in sight for us to be able to share (the test results). We have made repeated requests, but as of now we have nothing to share.” The paper wrote that the GOJ announced on Dec. 22 that the U.S. side would conduct testing for the Omicron variant.
