All national dailies wrote that the Health Ministry is likely to shorten by three days the present 10-day requirement for people identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19 patients to stay at home in the face of the looming possibility of various social functions grinding to a halt due to a surge in close contacts. The GOJ is planning to endorse reducing the self-quarantine period to seven days today. Pressure has reportedly mounted on the Kishida administration to shorten the period in view of growing concern about a possible shortage of healthcare and other essential workers amid the surge in Omicron cases and the consequent rise in the number of people designated as close contacts.
