Yomiuri wrote that about 4.08 million people in Japan had received a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of Jan. 30, which is only 27.8% of the 14.7 million people the GOJ had planned to administer booster shots to by the end of January. The paper said although the GOJ shortened the interval between the second and third shots by one to two months in order to give booster shots to medical practitioners and the elderly people by the end of January, the plan has been delayed due to local municipalities’ inability to complete the necessary paperwork and send out vaccination tickets in time.
