GOJ to cooperate with Tokyo, Osaka to secure 1,000 more beds for COVID-19 patients

All national dailies wrote that Prime Minister Kishida said that the GOJ will cooperate with the governments of Tokyo and Osaka to secure 1,000 additional beds in order to increase hospital capacity for treating COVID-19 patients, particularly elderly people, in response to the spread of Omicron. Tokyo plans to secure about 660 hospital beds using a hotel, a vacant former medical facility, and temporary medical facilities, and Osaka plans to add some 350 beds. The central government is also arranging to send as many as 200 nurses to the two prefectures from public hospitals in other prefectures.
