The government has decided to use cloud services provided by Japanese companies to manage data in state secrets. This is part of Japan’s nationwide cloud computing project aimed at sharing administrative data online. The plan is intended to prevent state secrets from being stolen by foreign countries and to support the technological development of Japanese companies, which have been outpaced by American IT giants. The plan is for service providers to be selected in FY2022 and the system to come into operation in FY2023. (Abridged)
