Mainichi and Yomiuri wrote that the GOJ is making arrangements to extend the quasi-state of emergency in Kyoto, Osaka, and Hyogo beyond its scheduled end on Feb. 20 because the hospital bed capacity is under strain in these prefectures. The government is also considering extending the measures in Hokkaido, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Kagoshima. However, the government is planning to lift the emergency in Okinawa and several other prefectures on Feb. 20 as scheduled in view of the decline in the number of new cases there.
