Yomiuri reported online that Ambassador Emanuel traveled to Yokosuka this morning by train for a meeting with the Yokosuka mayor, saying that as a train aficionado, the Ambassador chose to make the hour-long train trip from Tokyo.
The daily highlighted a tweet the Ambassador posted afterward, quoting him as saying: “Today’s commute to Yokosuka was my first train ride as Ambassador. #Japan’s world-class rail system is worthy of a world-class country. It did not disappoint.” According to a U.S. Embassy spokesperson, the Ambassador was a frequent rider of trains while he was mayor of Chicago. The daily added that the U.S. envoy toured Yokosuka Naval Base following his meeting with Yokosuka Mayor Kamiji.
