The Japanese Communist Party (JCP) compiled a booklet explaining its platform regarding the Imperial system and national security policy. The party wrote it “will never abolish” the Imperial system even if it becomes a ruling party. It also wrote it is “not considering immediately dissolving” the Self-Defense Forces (SDF).

As for the Imperial system, the party wrote it will “leave the issue of whether to maintain the system up to the will of the public based on the Constitution.” The JCP once again suggested the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty be scrapped in order to “build a peaceful Asia.”

JCP leader Shii Kazuo appeared on BS TV Tokyo’s “Nikkei Sunday Salon” on Feb. 20 and said the booklet “explains the position of (the party’s) platform in an easy-to-understand way.” He went on to say [the booklet] “is equivalent (to the JCP platform).”
