Former PM Abe mentions “nuclear weapons sharing” to deter adversaries

All national papers except Mainichi took up a remark made on a Sunday talk show by former Prime Minister Abe that Japan should consider “sharing” nuclear weapons in response to President Putin’s suggestion of the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict with Ukraine. While referring to NATO’s “nuclear sharing,” in which member countries, including those without nuclear weapons of their own, are involved in the planning and the use of nuclear weapons by NATO, the former premier said: “Japan should no longer view discussions on how global security is ensured as taboo. We should conduct such discussions while considering various options.”
