Mainichi wrote that it has learned from a source connected with the Ukrainian Embassy in Tokyo that about 70 Japanese have responded to its tweet on Feb. 27 saying that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced that the Ukrainian armed forces will set up a foreign legion unit for international volunteers. According to another source, about 50 of the 70 volunteers are former SDF members. However, the paper wrote that the GOJ has issued an evacuation advisory for Ukraine and Foreign Minister Hayashi told reporters on Tuesday that although he is aware of the Ukrainian Embassy’s announcement, travel to the nation for any purpose should be avoided. Asahi ran a similar report.
