Kishida eager to attend G7 summit in Brussels

NHK reported on remarks made at the Diet this morning by Prime Minister Kishida on his intention to attend the G7 summit on the war in Ukraine to be held in Brussels on Thursday. “I am planning to participate in person,” he was quoted as saying: “It’s important for the global community to unite at the G7 in responding firmly to Russia’s reckless act of invading Ukraine. As the leader of the only G7 member representing Asia, I would like to present an Asian viewpoint while taking into account my recent tour of India and Cambodia and share my understanding of the current Ukraine situation with the other members.” The premier said he hopes to hold one-on-one meetings with President Biden and other G7 leaders on the margins of the summit to swiftly build relationships of trust.
