Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that the Okinawa Defense Bureau has finished transplanting some 39,000 small coral colonies off the coast of Camp Schwab ahead of the extension of a seawall to speed up the land reclamation work. The daily said the bureau plans to start the engineering work shortly despite the presence of two large coral colonies nearby because the prefectural government remains opposed to the bureau’s request for relocating them on account of the soft seabed in the vicinity. The bureau reportedly explained that the installation of underwater fences will prevent the earth on the ocean floor from damaging the two colonies.
