On March 30, the Ishikawa police arrested a 24-year-old U.S. Marine sergeant stationed at Camp Hansen on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). The suspect denied part of the charge, saying, “I don’t remember how much I drank.” The allegation is that around 4:40 a.m. on March 30, the suspect was driving while intoxicated along Route 329 in Kin Town with the amount of alcohol in their blood three times the legal limit. According to the police, the suspect’s car plowed into the rear of a car slowing for a red light at an intersection. The driver of the car hit from behind called the police. One of the police officers who responded to the the accident administered a breathalyzer test, which revealed the suspect had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver of the other car was reportedly not injured.
