The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) has announced its new lineup of officers at the Organized Crime Control Bureau, which will be reorganized on April 1. The TMPD will newly establish the “crime proceeds control unit,” which will specialize in combatting money laundering. [The bureau’s] first section, which addresses illegal residence by foreign nationals, and the second section, which is responsible for handling murders, robberies, and other heinous crimes, will be merged to become the “international crime control section.” The third and fourth sections, which were in charge of ascertaining the situation of gang groups and investigating them, will be merged to become the “criminal gangs control section.” The fifth section will be renamed the “drugs and firearms control section.” (Abridged)
