Japan Coast Guard to procure U.S. drone for surveillance

Saturday’s Yomiuri reported that the Japan Coast Guard officially decided on Friday to procure a UAV manufactured by a U.S. defense technology company to strengthen its around-the-clock monitoring of the Sea of Japan for the purposes of cracking down on illegal fishing and conducting search and rescue operations. The General Atomics Sea Guardian will be deployed at an MSDF base in Aomori for maritime surveillance beginning in October.
