The Sunday editions of all national papers reported from Warsaw that Foreign Minister Hayashi met with his Ukrainian counterpart there on Saturday and conveyed the GOJ’s plan to take in Ukrainian refugees, which he stressed represents Japan’s firm solidarity with the people of Ukraine. The Ukrainian official reportedly voiced gratitude for Hayashi’s statement that Tokyo is “strongly determined to support” Ukraine.

According to today’s papers, Hayashi visited the Polish town of Medyka on the border with Ukraine on Sunday and met with border guards there to learn about the plights of the displaced Ukrainians. He then traveled to a nearby city where a Japanese government liaison office has been established to assist Ukrainian evacuees.
