On March 30, the Ishikawa Police arrested on the spot a 24-year-old Marine sergeant assigned to the U.S. military’s Camp Hansen on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Law (for driving under the influence of alcohol) for driving a minicar while under the influence of alcohol. The police say the suspect partially denied the charge at the time of the arrest, saying, “I drank alcohol but don’t remember how much.” Alcohol of about three times the legal limit was detected on the suspect’s breath.

The suspect was arrested on charges of driving a car under the influence of alcohol on National Route 329 in the Kin area in Kin Town at around 4:40 a.m. on March 30.

According to the police, the suspect’s car rear-ended another vehicle. Police officers rushed to the scene of the accident and smelled alcohol on the suspect’s breath. None of the passengers in the rear-ended vehicle sustained injuries. (Translator’s note: Personal name has been redacted.)
