U.S. military aircraft landed at and took off from the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma a record 18,017 times in 2021 alone, according to the Okinawa Defense Bureau of the Ministry of Defense.

The number of landings and takeoffs made by aircraft permanently stationed at Futenma rose slightly to 14,823, and the number of landings and takeoffs made by aircraft belonging to other U.S. military bases in and outside of Japan increased to a record 3,194, up by 544 from 2020.

The number of landings and takeoffs made by MV22 Ospreys also jumped to a record-high 3,718. (Abridged)
