Senior USG official says Putin’s attendance at G20 “difficult to imagine”

Yomiuri and Sankei reported that NSC Indo-Pacific Coordinator Campbell said during a debate hosted by a U.S. think tank on Tuesday that it is “difficult to imagine” that Russian President Putin will attend the G20 summit to be hosted by Indonesia in November. According to Yomiuri, Campbell said he “cannot imagine an environment where President Putin is invited to hold civilized discussions on development or climate change,” although nothing has been decided at this point. According to Sankei, the senior USG official also stressed the need for the international community to take a stern attitude toward Russia in light of the killing of many civilians near Kyiv.
