NHK reported that Foreign Minister Hayashi met with visiting Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Momen at MOFA today and conveyed Japan’s position that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a serious matter that shakes the foundation of the international order and that any attempt to change the status quo by force cannot be tolerated. Hayashi also reportedly condemned Russia’s violation of international law by harming civilians, and the Bangladeshi foreign minister reportedly responded by saying: “We are deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine.” In addition, the network said in light of the UNSC resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of the Russian military that was vetoed by Russia, the two ministers agreed to work closely on such matters as discussion of UNSC reform. They also reportedly confirmed close cooperation over North Korea’s ICBM launches and the abduction issue.
