Asahi, Mainichi, and Yomiuri reported that the LDP’s Research Council on Security headed by former Defense Minister Onodera held a meeting on Monday and agreed to call on the government to acquire the “capability to attack enemy bases” when the LDP proposes revisions to the three national security documents, including the National Security Strategy. The paper said that although the participants also discussed how to change the wording of the phrase “capabilities to attack enemy bases,” they failed to come up with a final plan. In addition, the daily wrote that while the participants also discussed the U.S. extended nuclear deterrence, they did not talk about the possibility of nuclear sharing.
