NHK reported at noon that following China’s announcement that it signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, senior government officials of the United States, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand met in Hawaii on Monday and shared concern that the security pact poses a serious risk to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The network said the officials confirmed that their nations will continue to engage with Pacific island states in dealing with such issues as maritime security and climate change.
